Edward Tucker Architects, Inc. renovated the Social Hall and Kitchen of this church, while transforming an adjacent 30’ x 200’ lot into a Memorial Garden and Playground. An accessible entrance to the Sanctuary was cleverly woven into the Garden’s design, and along with access to the Social Hall below, enlivens the space visually and functionally. Through improved lighting and completely new interiors, the Social Hall is now a warm, welcoming and brighter space. The Playground serves the Church’s daycare in a secure environment within its urban context. The Memorial Garden features a terraced plan and plantings that focus on a fountain with benches and secondary seating. The Garden’s accessibility features and overall design were honored with an Award of Merit from AIA West Virginia.
