Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Parish - New Church
Wayne, West Virginia - Completed 2005
The Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston commissioned Edward Tucker Architects, Inc. to design a new church for Nativity of Our Lord Parish. Since the existing church and rectory were built next to a creek that regularly floods, the first phase of the project was to demolish the old structures and install seven feet of fill material to raise the new building site above the flood plain. The second phase was the construction of a new brick facility with sanctuary, nave seating for 100 people, social hall, exterior covered porch, kitchen, classroom and office space. Traditional detailing such as Tuscan columns, oval louvers, half round gutters and metal roof contribute to the elegance of the building, while the building form responds to the shape of the site.
