Marshall University - Basketball Locker Rooms
Huntington, West Virginia - Completed 2009
Designed to be a top tier NCAA basketball facility, the new Marshall University Men’s and Women’s Basketball Locker Rooms are the most recent facility upgrades to the Cam Henderson Center in Huntington, West Virginia.

The designer worked to create a warmly lit and vibrant space that acts as a showpiece for the program and recognizes its impact as a recruiting tool for future student athletes. Wall graphics and signage were integrated into the design, creating a lively visual experience while telling the story of the program’s proud past. A state of the art audio and video system is also incorporated into the design, aiding breakdown of game film as well as recreational uses for players and recruits.

Materials and finishes reinforce function, an example of which is the game lines painted on the lounge floor. While these support the basketball themed interior, they are used for half time walk-thru and game adjustments simply by pushing the lounge furniture into the adjacent storage area. Marlite panels in wood tones provide warmth to the space, but are placed in areas primarily where wall protection is needed.

The design maximizes vertical openness by taking advantage of available height where it occurs, an open plan with circulation efficiency, and spatial organization with a careful control of sightlines.
